On Monday August 29th Katrina made landfall in southeast Louisiana. Eighty percent of New Orleans was under as much as twenty feet of water. One million people had fled the city and as many as thirty thousand residents were housed in the Superdome. The total economic damage was 81.2 billion and the death toll for Katrina was 1,836.
