Chicano Park

Chicano Park is an example of the power of community action and determination. A neighborhood blighted by highway construction can unite and transform blight into a vibrant community space filled with its art and history. Thousands of low-income residents were displaced as a result of the construction of the Coronado Bridge. In the 1950s and 60s major road and urban renewal projects were planned and constructed across the United States. These projects are now considered to have targeted urban slums and their removal.
